How to market a restoration company: a 12-month plan

A month-by-month plan for a water damage restoration company: what to fix first, what to build, and how to know it’s working.

“How to market a restoration company,” “restoration marketing plan” and “marketing plans for restoration companies” each get about 170 searches a month in the US (Semrush, October 2026). Most answers are a list of ideas. This is a sequence. For the list, see restoration marketing ideas that bring in water jobs.

Before month 1: measure

Put a separate tracking number on your website, your Google Business Profile and each ad or lead source. Write down how many calls and jobs came from each last month, even roughly. Without this, you’ll never know what worked.

Months 1–2: fix the profile and the site

  • Google Business Profile: the right primary category, every service listed, real hours (only say 24/7 if you answer), service areas, and 20+ real job photos.
  • Citations: the same name, address and phone on the main directories and data aggregators.
  • Website basics: tap-to-call on every page, fast on a phone, and one clear page per service: water extraction, drying, sewage, mold, fire and smoke.

Months 2–4: build the pages that rank

  • A page for each town you want jobs in, written about that town: response time from your shop, house stock, jobs you’ve done there.
  • An insurance and billing page. “Do you work with my insurance?” is the question that decides the call.
  • Pages for referral partners: plumbers, insurance agents, property managers.

Months 3–6: reviews and referrals

Months 4–9: links and content

  • Earn links from places that make sense: local associations, supplier and partner pages, community sponsorships.
  • Write up real jobs by town, with photos and moisture readings. They help town rankings and they’re proof.

Months 6–12: compare and decide

Now you have numbers. Compare cost per billed job across ads, Local Services Ads, lead networks, referrals and organic. Put more into what’s cheapest per job and cut what isn’t working. Most companies find their own channel gets cheaper every month, while bought channels stay flat or rise.

Budget

Search for water damage is expensive to buy: advertisers pay about $42 a click for “water damage restoration near me” (Semrush, October 2026). That’s the case for building your own channel. It’s not a case for stopping ads on day one.
