How to get more Google reviews after a foundation or crawl space job

Reviews are one of the few ranking factors you control directly. Here’s a simple system for asking, the wording that works, and what not to do.

“How to get more Google reviews” gets about 480 searches a month in the US, and “google review link” about 5,400 (Semrush, October 2026). Plenty of owners know they need more reviews. Fewer have a system.

Why reviews matter more in the water trades

Foundation, waterproofing and crawl space jobs are big, and the homeowner is nervous. They’ll read your reviews before they let you in the house. Google also says prominence, which includes your review count and rating, is one of the three things behind local rankings, along with relevance and distance.

A system that works

  1. Pick the moment. Ask at the final walk-through, when the crew has cleaned up and the homeowner can see the result. Not on the invoice.
  2. Ask in person first. The crew lead says it: “If you’re happy with this, a Google review really helps us. I’ll text you the link.”
  3. Send the link the same day. Use your profile’s review link. Get it from your Google Business Profile (“Ask for reviews”). One tap, straight to the review box.
  4. Remind once. A short follow-up three or four days later. Then stop.
  5. Reply to every review. Thank them by name, mention the job and the town. Future customers read your replies too.

Wording that gets useful reviews

Reviews that mention the work and the town help more than “great job!” You can’t tell customers what to write, but you can remind them what you did:

“Thanks again for having us out to fix the wall in your basement in Millbrook. If you have a minute, a Google review about how the job went would mean a lot to the crew: [link]”

What not to do

  • Don’t buy reviews or write them. It’s against Google’s rules and against FTC rules on fake reviews.
  • Don’t offer discounts or gifts for reviews. Google prohibits incentivized reviews.
  • Don’t gate. Asking only happy customers to review, and sending unhappy ones somewhere else, is against Google’s policy too.
  • Don’t panic about a bad one. Reply calmly, say what you did or will do, and move on. A few honest critical reviews make the good ones believable.

Track it

Count reviews per month and per crew. If one crew gets twice as many, find out what they say at the walk-through and have everyone say it.
